Gift Dignity: Gifting the Elderly Fun & Laughter

Gift Dignity: Gifting the Elderly Fun & Laughter

Gift Dignity campaign is back! This edition, we aim to sponsor up to 240 underprivileged senior citizens with a fun experience and lunch treat!

Why are we doing this?

Imagine yourself at 70 years old, living alone in 247 square feet of space, savings dwindling, with no one to talk to for most of the day.

You look forward to going to the senior activity centre where you can meet your friends, but you are unwell today, and hence trapped in your home.

People feel you should be grateful to live in a one room HDB rental flat while there are other homeless elderly out there. Only you know how much you want to reach out to your children, too bu...sy to see you, or talk to your friends, bring some laughter and joy into your life. Every day is a struggle against sinking into depression.

This image is depressing but very real, as 47.3% of the population above 55 years old live alone and face feelings like this on a daily basis. Studies have shown that they face serious consequences such as failing health, depression, suicidal thoughts etc when socially isolated.

In an increasingly high tech world where the younger generation is often caught up with their own lives and concerns, few engage in deep and meaningful interaction with the senior citizens in their lives.

Ame de Lumiere is collaborating with Project Unsung Heroes to raise $9,000 for 6 events for 240 underprivileged elderly.
The events will be held at Dignity Kitchen: Block 267 Serangoon Ave 3 #02-02, 550267

The Programme:
1100 – Bus to pick elderly/needy from the home/care centre for a city tour
1200 – Arrival of the elderly for lunch at Dignity Kitchen. A drink, meal and dessert is served for the elderly/needy.
Entertainment is provided by our volunteers for the seniors! Songs and games galore!
1300 – Elderly return to their home/care centres with a nostalgic coffee table book reminding them of old Singapore.

How you can help:
A) Sponsor a senior (or two) at $50 per person
B) Volunteer at the Lunch on listed dates at Dignity Kitchen
C) Donate any amount you want
D) Share the news on Facebook: tag ame de lumiere holistic consultancyTwitter: @ADLcollectiveInstagram: #amedelumiere
E) All of the above

Why Dignity Kitchen?
Dignity Kitchen is Singapore’s first hawker training school for disabled and disadvantaged people.
They give on-the-job training and place their graduates in jobs that are right for them. To date, the graduates they have placed have a 70% retention rate. However it is an uphill task as many employers are still prejudiced against the disabled and disadvantaged.
Dignity Kitchen also ensures that graduates placed are paid market rates..

We would like to support their mission to build and return the dignity to the disadvantaged and disabled through vocation with passion!

Donation can be made by Cheque or DBS bank transfer.
Contact us via email at support@amedelumiere.com.sg or whatsapp us at 9749 2857.
